Choosing A Good Book

Ten Ways to Choose A Good Book

1.  Look at the title and cover - does it appeal?

2.  Read the blurb - does it interest you?  Give different genres a chance.

3.  Listen to friends, teachers, parents and librarians' suggestions.

4.  Look for good authors and series.

5.  Skim through the first few pages.

6.  Try the five finger test and check the difficulty level.
(Open the book at any page and start reading.  Each time you come to a word you don't know put down a finger.  If you come across five tricky words on the same page perhaps the book is a bit hard for you at the moment.)

7.  Use the catalogue to look up authors, titles and subjects that interest you.

8.  Ask for booklists, check displays and blogs.

9.  Give a book a fir chance - read several chapters.

10.  Make time - each and every day!
