National Library Trip

We recently took a group of Year 5 and 6 Lunchtime librarians to the National Library as acknowledgement of the hard work and accomplishments in the library this year.

The National Library is an awesome place.

The students got a great tour, they were taken down into the basement where there are several million books stored for research purposes.  It was amazing for us to see, some of the books were very very old.  We hung out on the lifelines table and were also taken up to the Alexander Turnbull Library where we got to read some old books in the Reading Rooms.

It was a great trip, and a big thanks to the students who have given their time in the library this year, it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with you.

Book Buying

We had a great day book buying with some awesome Year 5 students recently.  Thanks Georgia, Lulu, Megan, Danny and Hannah for your help on our book buying day.  Look for these great reads being added to our collection soon....

Having a Yarn in the Library!

On Tuesdays at lunch time there are a group of us who are enjoying "having a yarn in the library".  We have started a crochet club with the help of Deryn and are starting to get the basic stitch down pat.

We have all sorts of projects in mind....have you heard of Yarn Bombing?  Sounds fun to us!!

Happy Birthday Hairy Maclary.

Hairy Maclary turned 30 in the month of July... he certainly is a much loved character of our NZ literary world.

We celebrated at Redwood School today and had lots of fun.

We had some lovely Grandmothers come and read Hairy Maclary stories to the children in the junior school.  It was so much fun.

The library was a buzz of activity at lunchtime, with colouring and various other activities.

Reading Aloud

We had a great Read Aloud session at Redwood School today - myths, legends and stories from around the world under their arms, teachers headed off straight after morning tea to different classrooms to share a story.

The children always love it, and the teachers do too!

Our Treasure Box

We have a wonderful treasure box in our school library.  One of the most popular books is the Star Wars pop up guide.

It is full of awesome things

Teachers use the Treasure Box as a reward for lots of different things.  It is a special time to enjoy the library.  What do you need to do to get a Treasure Box pass from your teacher?
