Crochet club

Everyone is enjoying having the school library back in use.  The crochet club worked away in Room 6 last term, but are much happier in the library as they create!

We are working on making a blanket for the library, and it seems the children have developed skills very quickly.

Thanks to Deryn and Sarah, our experts who give up their time each week to work with the students.

Read Aloud

It's a funny time for us in the Redwood School Library this term.  The Library has gone mobile and Jan is doing an awesome job meeting reserves requested and bringing books to the children in the classrooms.  Meanwhile Room 15 have made themselves at home while their classroom gets renovated.

However we did not let this stop us enjoying a Read Aloud today.  Teachers headed off with Animal books under their arms to different areas of the school to enjoy reading with children.  Loads of fun for everyone!

Mrs Perkins is busy keeping the children from Rooms 16 and 17 interested.

Mrs Wilson reads to some of our newest students in Room 10.

Miss Smith reading to the children in Room 20.

One of my favourite animal books is the story of Owen and Mzee.  I have read this book to preschools, children at all levels of the primary school and above.  I love this story - if you haven't read it look for it in our school library.

Let books open doors for you

Our 2014 Book Week Theme is
Let Books Open Doors for You

We had an awesome week enjoying our visiting author Ruth Paul as well as the many other activities in the library.

It was great to have families join us and enjoy reading some of the "lucky dip" books during lunchtime.

The classrooms got into the theme and decorated doors, all sorts of cool ideas.  Thanks for your support teachers.

The library looks fantastic and we have books as the Key to History in the large Kiva.  Room 19 made the awesome shields.

We celebrated the cultural diversity of our school with our Round the World at Redwood School in the small kiva.  Thanks to all the families who shared items from their homes for us to experience and enjo. The interactive items were of great interest to all the children.

Harrison's Anzac Display

As part of his silver librarian award activities Harrison has created a wonderful display about Anzac Day.

Harrison chose to do a display on Anzac Day as he knows it is coming up, and he is interested in war stories.  Harrison created the display, and also chose all the books in the display.  He hopes you will enjoy reading them!  Well done Harrison

Theodore Seuss Geisel

At Redwood School we were pleased to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, he made such a contribution to children's literature, in such a fun way - and it was great to celebrate him as a school in our pajama's for this event.

The teachers all did a super job of supporting this event, and the children loved it.   We had some displays in the library and school foyer, and lots of art and literacy activities were completed through out the school.

Lots of buddy classes got together and enjoyed reading the wonderful stories of Dr. Seuss.

National Library Trip

We recently took a group of Year 5 and 6 Lunchtime librarians to the National Library as acknowledgement of the hard work and accomplishments in the library this year.

The National Library is an awesome place.

The students got a great tour, they were taken down into the basement where there are several million books stored for research purposes.  It was amazing for us to see, some of the books were very very old.  We hung out on the lifelines table and were also taken up to the Alexander Turnbull Library where we got to read some old books in the Reading Rooms.

It was a great trip, and a big thanks to the students who have given their time in the library this year, it was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with you.
